High On Life features numerous quirky interactions and dark comedy moments that shape your intergalactic adventure. One of the earliest and most memorable missable objectives involves following Knifey's advice to stab Gene in the gut. Understanding when and how to trigger this prompt ensures you unlock the associated achievement without missing your chance.

How to Unlock Knifey and Return to Gene

To initiate this specific objective, players must first progress through the 9-Torg bounty mission in the Slums. During your exploration of the area, you will acquire Knifey, a sentient and aggressive melee weapon. After defeating 9-Torg at the end of the Sludge Works, you will return home to present your success to Gene.

Executing the Action and Unlocking the Achievement

Upon entering the house, engage in the story conversation with Gene on the couch. Knifey will continuously prompt you to attack the former bounty hunter during and after the dialogue. Walk directly up to Gene until the red prompt box appears, then press the melee button to stab him. Doing so immediately unlocks the missable trophy titled Don't Knife The Hand That Feeds.

Consequences of Stabbing Gene

Despite the violent nature of the action, stabbing Gene does not ruin your game progression or eliminate him from the story. Gene will react with extreme anger and annoyance, but he remains alive to help guide your future bounties. Players can proceed with their campaign normally while keeping their newly unlocked achievement intact.

Why This Objective is Easily Missable

If you choose to ignore Knifey's suggestion and leave the house or proceed to the next bounty without attacking, the opportunity disappears. Once you advance past this specific narrative moment, you cannot trigger the prompt again without starting a new game. Players aiming for 100% completion should always fulfill this objective as soon as they return from the Slums.
